General

  • Each traveller is usually entitled to have only one MAIN piece of luggage weighing up to 23 kg, and only one hand luggage weighing up to 8 kg. Some airlines however, allow less weight for luggage, or, they charge extra for the 23 + 8 kg. Please check with our Agency for the weight of the baggage that you are entitled to take with you before you travel.
  • Every person entering or leaving the European Union and transferring cash of a value equal to or greater than € 10,000 has to declare this amount to the authorities of the Member State through which he enters or leaves the European Union, in accordance with Regulation 1889/2005.
  • Both the U.S. Dollar and the European Euro are accepted abroad. Coins of small values are hardly exchanged or accepted abroad – Only paper currency. For daily small expenses and for the churshes, travellers are advised to exchange Euros in local currency, or to have coins (EUROES) of 2€, 1€ and 50 Minutes (not smaller).
  • Professional videocameras and photographic machines MUST BE DECLARED upon leaving or entering the EU.
  • Travellers are advised to carry with them on their trip necessary things only in order to have as little weight as possible.
  • If a multi-day trip is planned with several hotel changes with stays of 1 or 2 nights, then it will be very useful for travellers to have with them a small auxiliary bag in order to avoid numerous loadings and unloadings of the main luggage from the bus.
  • Mobile phones operate abroad by using foreign mobile telephone networks. Please contact your mobile telephone company for more details about cost of calls, roaming services, etc..

USEFUL OBJECTS FOR YOUR TRIP

A cane, and an umbrella for the sun and for the rain.

A bottle (preferably a thermos) for drinking water and little plastic bottles for Holy water, myrrh etc.

A small folding stool for the churches and especially for the church of the Resurrection where there are NO stalls.

NOT ALLOWED

  • Dangerous items such as compressed gases, gas canisters, flammable materials, corrosive materials, acids, oxygen devices, lead batteries, mercury devices, explosives, fireworks, flares, solvent paints, lighters with LPG, poisonous and contaminated substances, insecticides, herbicides, materials with live viruses, radioactive materials, and magnetic materials that cause annoyance, ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE TRANSFERRED IN THE LUGGAGE OF PASSENGERS.
  • Sharp objects such as scissors, nail clippers, needles, knives, flick knives, tools, and swords are ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE TRANSFERRED IN THE HAND-LUGGAGE OF PASSENGERS.

Israel

TEL AVIV AIRPORT

At Tel Aviv Airport, luggage carts are available ONLY by payment with a credit card. The process is time consuming and not easy. Travellers are advised to carry wheeled luggage with them, with as little weight as possible.

WEATHER AND CLOTHING

Israel’s climate is mediterranian and warmer than that of Greece. In the evenings however, it is cold ue to altitude in Jerusalem and in Bethlehem, where usually the main accommodation of travellers take splace. The clothing needed is usually summery and light. During the evening hours (even in summer), warmer clothes are needed. Also, more casual clothes and shoes are needed for visiting desert monasteries by walking or soil paths.

For the Old City of Jerusalem, it is necessary to wear shoes with rubber soles due to the slipperiness of the stone paved streets.

Women are advised to have a shawl with them to cover their trousers (if they are wearing trousers), in order to be allowed to enter some monasteries.

EXCHANGE/ LOCAL CURRENCY
The currency of Israel is the “shekel”, which is divided into 100 Agorots. With today’s exchange rate [July 2020], the corresponding currency values are approximately:

1 Euro = 3.85 Shekels.
That is, 1 Shekel = (approximately) 26cents

ELECTRICAL VOLTAGE

The electrical voltage in Israel is the same as that of the EU (and Greece) (220 Volts)

WATER/FOOD

Water in Israel is clean and potable. Meals at hotels are clean and are usually based on European cuisine. Also, Israel offers many local fruits.

SHOPPING

In the old city of Jerusalem and in Bethlehem, where there will be opportunities for shopping, the Εuro and the US Dollar are accepted by most shops.

Shopping in Israel: Souvenirs, agiotics, crosses, woodwors made of olive tree wood,  jewels made of Mother of Pearl (Nacre), gold etc.

Remarks – Travellers’ Responcibilities

  • Each traveller is responsible during the trip, for the safekeeping of their passport, their money, and their personal belongings. If you lose something, we will support you in finding the best possible and immediate solution. Any expenses that might be incurred, will burden you.
  • Our agency (Hyfelios Travel) has the right to change the itinerary and modify the programme, if this becomes necessary for reasons of “force majeure”.
  • It is very impoprtant that you read carefully the Terms and Conditions of our Agency when participating in organized tours, as well as our Privacy Policy for the protection of personal data.

A Note from the Airlines

We would like to inform you of the new EU regulations that will apply from the 6th of November 2006 to and from all airports of European states and are are imposed for the protection and safety of flights and passengers, from the threat of new forms of liquid explosives.

Items which the passenger is not permitted to carry in their hand baggage:

      1. Any kind of liquids including water.
      2. perfumes
      3. gel
      4. creams including toothpaste, lotion and oils
      5. spray
      6. shaving cream, other creams/foams and deodorants
      7. cosmetics and any object similar to the above.

Each passenger can have with them liquids and jells of quantity up to 100ml, only if they are placed in a transparent plastic bag, which can be sealed.

The items excluded from the regulation are medicines that will be used during the flight and baby food for consumption, also during the flight.

Products that may be purchased at airport duty-free shops after the hand luggage inspection or during the flight will also be sealed upon purchase.

Transportation of OIL.

It is strictly forbidden to place oil in  hand luggage, even in small quantities.

Oil transportation will only be allowed if it is packed in a wooden box according to international regulations, will be be accounted for in the total weight of each passenger’s luggage and placed in the luggage compartment only.

Please inform passengers about these new regulations in order to avoid problems upon their arrival at the airport, explaining that these measures are taken entirely for their own safety.
